September Schedule!

Hooray! Fall is almost here! As an avid maker I absolutely adore this season as it feels like the perfect time to cozy up, stay inside + create! It's also the most popular time to work with yarn (my favourite medium). And is my favourite season for clothes. And food. And weather. And I could go on... So I hope you will come out + join me in all of the workshops we have this month! Lots of goodies to get you in the mood for Fall.

Maybe it's the echoes of school days but September, like January, feels like a time to turn over a new leaf, set new goals + intentions and get your life organized! So I thought it would be the perfect time to invite the lovely ladies from Purple Lotus back for another Mala Making Workshop. Let's set some positive intentions for this new season! And in November we will be hosting an intermediate Mala Making Workshop using the foundation learned in the class this month (as well as the previous Mala workshops we've hosted) so if you've been trying to come out this will be your last chance before the intermediate class in November!!

Next, we're going to refresh our fall wardrobes in Harold + Ferne's 2nd Clothing Swap! I have gotten so much wear out of the pieces I scored in our Spring/Summer Swap in April and I am SO excited to update my Fall wardrobe next!

After that we are getting ready to combat cold season with Essential Oils!

Finally we get cozy with our classic weaving workshop. But that's not all! The last weekend in September is Culture Days/Doors Open Orillia + to celebrate we will host the creation of a community weaving.

Phew! Well you clearly don't want to miss out on any of this so get in touch today to save your spots! Want more details? Check out the descriptions below!

Wednesday September 7

Mala Workshop 7:00 - 9:00

Join the lovely ladies from Purple Lotus here in the shop for a beginner mala making workshop. We hosted a private mala making party in May + it was such a success that we've asked them to come back once again. What is a mala? A mala is a string of beads used to count mantras (Sanskrit prayers) in sets of 108 repetitions. If you are seasoned in meditation or a beginner or would just like to make your own beautiful mala necklace, everyone will feel welcome in this guided course. Choose from different styles + a wide variety of stones, beads + charms to make a mala that suits you perfectly. If you already have a mala, you can make another as each mala is infused with a different intention. So join us for this wonderful experience, you'll learn a lot + have a wonderful time - we promise! This workshop is perfect for creators of all skill sets $55 +HST Includes all materials + refreshments

Thursday September 15

Fall Clothing Swap 7:00 - 9:00

If you're starting to eye up all of the sweaters, leggings, button ups, boots + scarves that are popping up don't take the plunge just yet!! You could get a whole new wardrobe for just $15.00!!!!!!! Whaaaat?? Yes, you read that right! Here's what you have to do...

Step 1: Pull out all of your Fall/Winter clothes + decide which pieces you absolutely love + can't wait to wear again. Put all of the clothes you are feeling "meh" about (but are still in great shape) into a basket or bag.

Step 2: Sign up for Harold + Ferne's Fall Clothing Swap by emailing, calling or coming into the shop or getting in touch over social media to reserve your spot.

Step 3: On September 15th bring that bag or basket full of clothes to Harold + Ferne: The Local Goods Co. and enjoy some refreshments while "swapping" your clothes.

How it works

*You must bring a minimum of 5 clothing items

*You will go home with the same amount of items (or less if you're trying to downsize your closet) that you came with

*Acceptable items include: jewelry, boots/shoes (no sandals), scarves, hats, mitts, jackets, button ups, pants, sweaters...you get the idea :) please don't bring spring/summer clothes or your intimates

*Ensure all items are gently used + recently washed (and make sure you check all of your pockets beforehand!)

*Wear a tank top + leggings because you can easily try clothes on over them

*Bring a tote bag to keep your finds safe + separate

*Any unclaimed items will be donated to Green Again for New Beginnings!

Doors Open Orillia/Culture Days

Here at the shop I'm excited to participate in Culture Days 2016! Throughout town you will be able to find various activities or demonstrations celebrating local talent. Here at the shop we will be hosting a community weaving project. Stop by the shop to add your own line to the final piece. Wool and other fibres will be supplied but you are more than welcome to bring your own material including yarn, a strip of fabric, wool roving or string no more than 36” long. We are all adding a unique story to the greater history of our community here in Orillia and the final weaving will represent that unique diversity. Add your voice to this one of a kind piece of fibre art! The final product will hang in the shop as a reminder to participate in and support our local community. No previous experience is needed as direction will be provided on site + there is no cost to participate. Participants of all ages are welcome to contribute!

Happy Crafting!
