Top Five for Fall!

Our new Shop Manager, Celeste, put together a list of her favourite go-to's for the season, take a look!

We are beginning to seek out comfort and warmth as we prepare for another long winter. With the holidays approaching, here are some things I have been eyeing for myself or as gifts!

1. Glass Elegance Night Lights

Bev Burton is one of our stained glass artists and she also makes glass jewelry, coasters, night lights and more! Bev cuts and layers the glass and then it is fired in a kiln. Her night lights are adorable and perfect for adding a little light to any room. They are great baby shower and birthday gifts for little ones, but are great for adults too!

How often do you stumble through the halls at night or blind yourself with the bright bathroom light after you have adjusted to the dark? Not any more with a strategically places night light! Plus, switching to a red light bulb will help you get back to sleep quicker. LED and fluorescent lights emit blue wavelengths, which are great during the day as they help keep you alert, but in the evening they trick your brain into thinking its daytime. Social media sites use blue because it keeps you awake and encourages you to spend hours mindlessly scrolling! A red light has the lowest wave length so it will have a much smaller impact on your sleep cycle and help you fall back asleep faster.

2. Simple Abundance Essential Oil Travel Pouches

As the weather gets colder we often start to feel down, maybe a little achy and sniffly as cold season makes it’s rounds. Keep your essential oils safe and close by with these pouches. They are strong and sturdy, plus they come in so many cute colours and patterns. The inside has dividers to keep the glass bottles secure and protects them from knocking into each other. The large size fits full sized essential oil bottles, 5ml and 15ml, and the small travel size holds the mini sample bottles. The sample bottles can also be picked up in the shop and are a low-risk way to play with creating your own blends or just to take your oils on the go so you always have them when you are in need!

Below are a few blends to try, but remember, essential oils are natural but are also powerful. To prevent irritation, dilute your oils with jojoba or sweet almond oil (typically 6 drops of EO per ounce of carrier oil).

For sleep: lavender and bergamot For congestion: peppermint and eucalyptus For focus: rosemary and lemon For headaches: peppermint and lavender

3. 2nd Chances Soy Tea Cup Candles

A warm tea and a warm candle are on the top of my list of necessities for a lazy Sunday or comfy evening in. Both of those elements are combined to create these adorable soy candles by 2nd Chances.

Why do we have beeswax and soy candles at Harold + Ferne? Many people are hesitant to use candles that use paraffin wax due to potential associated health risks. Paraffin wax is made with a petroleum base and created from a crude oil (fossil fuel) which is left over after being refined into gasoline, while soy candles are made from soy bean oil. Paraffin wax candles produce more soot which is caused by the incomplete combustion of fuels primarily from the candles petroleum. It is visible by the black film that builds up on the candle jar and it may also irritate asthma and/or impact the air quality. Help protect yourself, your family and furry friends by using a more natural and healthier alternative available here at Harold + Ferne.

4. Evocative Essentials Nourishing Face Cream

All products from the Midland based company Evocative Essentials are handmade using natural, raw ingredients and authentic essential oils. Their nourishing face cream is everything your skin needs to get through another harsh winter. It penetrates the skin to combat moisture loss and fine lines as well as creating a barrier to protect it from the elements. Best applied in the morning so it lasts all day. It is the perfect go-to to add to your daily skin routine.

5. Creative & Wellness Workshops

Now that we are slowing down and taking more time for ourselves, it is a great opportunity to devote some time to learning a new skill. Come by yourself, with a loved one or to meet like-minded new friends by signing up for a creative work shop at Harold + Ferne! We also offer gift certificates so you can gift a friend with the opportunity or even host a private workshop!
